Guacamole - Avocado Dip

Guacamole is a gorgeously green dip that comes from Mexico. The word guacamole is derived from the Aztec words for avocado and sauce. This is a refreshing dip that can be eaten with crackers or nachos chips.

You can check the ripeness of the avocado by gently pressing the outside of the avocado. If it feels a little soft and it gives, then it’s ripe enough to make the guacomole.

Serves 2-4
 
Ingredients:

2 ripe avocado
1/2 green finger chilli, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 small tomato, finely chopped
2 tsp lemon or lime juice
A pinch of salt
A pinch of coarsely ground black pepper

   
Method:  

Cut the avocados in half and remove the stones, scoop out the flesh and dice. Place them in a bowl and with a fork, roughly mash them. Try not to puree the avocados. Add the chilli, garlic, onion and tomato and mix well. Tip in the lemon or lime juice, season with the salt and pepper and serve fresh.

 
Tips:

If you plan to store it in the refrigerator, cover it, omit the tomato but add it and mix in just before serving.
